I travelled here in late spring for a two-night retreat stay and had my expectations exceeded on every level. The rooms and main area are well-appointed and immaculately clean; the surroundings are indescribably beautiful. The food was elegantly simple and delicious and the outdoor hot tub and the two saunas made me so relaxed that I slept like a log on the super comfortable bed. Lasse’s morning yoga classes were the perfect start to my days. Most of all, though, I loved the warmth, care and professionalism that Christina and Lasse showed myself and the other guests. Our studio was spotlessly clean, private, well-appointed, situated in an accessible garden with a beautiful view of the river. Dining was outstanding. Breakfast and packed lunches were good too. Service was personal and professional. We enjoyed morning yoga, massage, lovely river walks and the company of other guests. Came home feeling refreshed and booked again for the summer! Maruia River Lodge is an easy two-hour drive from Nelson and well worth a visit for anyone on a tour of the South Island. The location of the lodge is a stunning property perched above a beautiful river and surrounded by tall trees. The well-appointed villas are comfortable and well-maintained. The sound of a babbling creek below the villas brings a sense of tranquillity. In the main lodge, visitors enjoy a welcoming bar and lounge with a fabulous fireplace. Probably the most surprising aspect of our visit was the incredible food. Although the property's restaurant doesn't have a proper food rating, it should!
